Yeboah, Hlongwane Each Score a Goal as Minnesota United Beats Sporting KC 2-0

Loons Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five Games

Abu Danladi set up the first goal by Yeboah in the 68th minute and Hlongwane added an insurance goal in the 84th minute to give Minnesota United FC a 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night at Allianz Field.

The victory extended Minnesota United's unbeaten streak to five games, with four wins and one draw. The Loons are now 7-4-4 on the season and are in fifth place in the Western Conference.

Sporting Kansas City dropped to 6-7-2 and are in seventh place in the Western Conference.

The first half was a fairly even contest with with both teams having chances to score. Minnesota United had a chance to take the lead in the 20th minute when Franco Fragapane got behind the Sporting KC defense, but his shot went just wide of the post.

Sporting Kansas City had their best chance of the half in the 35th minute when Johnny Russell's shot from just outside the box was saved by Minnesota United goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.

Minnesota United took the lead in the 68th minute when Danladi's cross found Yeboah unmarked in front of the net. Yeboah took one touch to settle the ball and then finished past Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia.

The Loons added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when Hlongwane received a pass from Emanuel Reynoso and then finished from close range.

"It was a good performance from the team," Minnesota United coach Adrian Heath said. "We created a lot of chances and we were solid defensively. We're starting to find our rhythm and we're confident that we can keep this run going."

"We're disappointed with the result, but we have to give credit to Minnesota United," Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said. "They were the better team tonight and they deserved to win.
